Are you trying to figure out the best way to attract traffic to your website? There are some people who will tell you that you need to use SEO (search engine optimization) and others will tell you to focus on social media. With so many various opinions floating around, it can be easy to get confused.
In the past, SEO was the clear winner. A person could put up a website with a few strategic keywords and get traffic from search engines almost immediately. Even websites that were full of crappy content were getting traffic!
Times have changed and getting traffic isn’t quite as easy. The search engines use algorithms that can now determine if your content is low or high quality and the search engines look at many different factors to decide who gets what ranking in the search engine results.
The game got changed again when social media became popular. All of a sudden, people aren’t just finding information by searching in search engines. People are now finding information via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and so forth.
Having a broad network of friends and followers who will not only visit your site to read your content themselves, but also share it with their friends and followers is almost crucial now.
The question is who wins in the battle of search engine traffic, SEO or social media?
Well, I'm going to surprise you and say NEITHER ONE WINS.
First of all, while social media is all the rage right now, SEO is *not* dead. You can still get a lot of traffic by implementing keywords into your content, titles, and tags.
But most importantly, and this is the kicker, the two now go hand in hand. Search engine rankings now factor in how social your website is!
It's more important than ever to be active in social media. Meeting other people and building the type of relationships where they help you promote your content is ideal.
As you can see, it’s best not to choose one or the other. The best option is to use both SEO and social media to their full potential. That way, you will get lots of traffic and won’t be missing out on anything.
