This explainer post from Search Engine Land does an awesome job of explaining why you should consider using https so I chose it for “Today's Out Of This World Recommended Read”.
=====> Explainer: How Google’s New SSL / HTTPS Ranking Factor Works < ===== What the post covers:
- Google Runs HTTPS Ranking Signal In Real Time
- Google’s HTTPS Ranking Signal Is On A Per-URL Basis
- Google’s Change Of Address Tool Not Supported
- Google News Publishers Can Switch To HTTPSHTTPS Ranking Signal Is Unrelated To Google Panda Or Other Algorithms
- SSL Errors Via Google Webmaster Tools Since HTTPS Signal Launched
- Case Studies On HTTP To HTTPS Migrations
Here's a quote from the post that got my attention.
“As soon as Google indexes your new HTTPS URL, that URL will immediately see a tiny ranking boost because of the HTTPS URL. That doesn’t mean you will see your rankings jump from result number 5 to 4, but it will, behind the scenes, have a small, tiny, boost in the overall ranking algorithm.”
An immediate ranking boost is a great thing!
If you already have an SSL certificate, seems a no brainer to me. I will be doing this myself soon. Email me at [email protected] if you need to purchase an SSL certificate (only about $20/yeaqr)
